"quiet" dinner w/in-laws

unrepentant tourist looking for a nice place to take 80-something in-laws. dad-in-law is getting hard of hearing, so we'd like to find a place where we don't need to shout all night. also, nothing spicy or too "exotic". straight-up American would be best.
they have never been to Boston. we are thinking about the North End one night, but then something in Back Bay on the second night.

I'd suggest Meritage. It has great views, and the room isn't very loud at all.
