Papillon - So. Ken
Had a lovely dinner at Papillon in South Kensington a few weeks ago. It was a warm evening, and we were seated inside but by the open doors. The service was attentive and personal, and the food was delicious. It has a high-end yet completely unpretentious vibe and our party of 4 really enjoyed ourselves.
I ordered the Mediterranean fish soup appetizer, and it was delicious. The waiter told me it was the best appetizer when he served me and that it was the owner's mother's recipe (I think he was the owner.) Loved the presentation too. A friend ordered the escargots and she really enjoyed them. As noted on this board previously I think, they do not come in a shell which she didn't mind at all. Her husband had the seared tuna, which looked wonderful and my husband had the scallops, which he loved. Again, fun presentation. We also shared a fried goat cheese salad which was wonderful and perfect for sharing
We all greatly enjoyed our mains too. Between us we had the duck, the sole and the beef. .
We ordered the apple tart (15 minutes to make, and worth the wait!), the chocolate ice cream dessert (which the chocolate lovers swooned over) and the pear sorbet with Poire Wiliams which was a dessert that is right up my alley. I loved it.
Really a great evening. We were told when making the reservation that we had 2 hours, but it wasn't enforced (even though it was a Saturday) and the evening was nicely paced. Definitely plan to return.
