There IS a New XLB House In Monterey Park Dumpling Central
Thanks to ms.sunshine for the tip on Dean Sin World in Monterey Park. I never would have found it since, as the original thread indicated, the outside English signage still says "Tastio Bakery," though I imagine that the Chinese language banner on the awning probably says something about dumplings. Basically they took the old bakery space and divided it in half--one half for four tables and a dozen chairs, the other half for a work area where you can watch a lady make noodles and dumplings. Certainly the antithesis of Din Tai Fung with its bustle and teams of chefs and preparers in action, as the lady noodlemaker at Dean Sin World also takes orders and probably helps out in serving, too, since she's performing only part of the time. Not being a connoisseur of XLB, I'm not qualified to rate the product here, except to say that the XLB had the sweetest broth ("hem" in Toishanese) I've encountered and was extra juicy. Dean Sin World is at 306 N. Garfield, #2, directly across the street from Qingdao Bread Food (the place with the great fish dumplings) and in front of Giang Nan.
is that cooked fish dumplings at Qingdao, I'll have to check it out. Haven't heard of it beforehand at all.

Qingdao has excellent steamed fish dumplings. It comes in two varieties--one with parsley and the other I'm not sure, maybe chives, but I really can't tell the difference. They also sell them frozen, 50 for $20. But if you really like fish dumplings I recommend the pan fried version at Delicious Delicious, in the same shopping center as Elite Restaurant in Monterey Park. Address is 732 S. Atlantic. I think it's the best I've eaten.

Delicious Delicious also has some amazing Jing Do Rou Bing (better than Northern Noodle on Garvey/Garfield). Item 58 on the take out menu.
The ma-la stir fried peanuts they serve for amuse bouche is also completely addicting.

Delicious Delicious has a lot of good stuff. #55 Chinese Burrito, i.e., beef roll, isn't as good as 101 Noodle Express but it's pretty good. Also the cold tofu items from the fast food display are very good.

Giang Nan's XLB are not too shabby either.
Thanks for the tip! The XLB quest continues...
