West Indies Soul in St. Paul "Temporarily Closed"

I went to have lunch there today, only to be greeted with a sign saying that they're "Temporarily Closed" - and to visit them at their Midtown Global Market location.

Does anyone know anything about this?

  1. Nooooooooooooooooooo! I love the St. Paul location - easy access, free parking, nice staff, and wonderful food - especially the goat and fish dishes that they make. But they've never been very busy when I was there. I sure hope this is temporary.

The Midtown Global Market booth was up and running when I was there two weeks ago.

The MGMkt booth is not new (we tasted their jerk chicken wings and those jamaican patties, can't remember what those are called, at our very first MGMKt chowdown), but it is good. I'm sad, too, that the University location seems to be closed. I hope it really is temporary. I just worry they will go the same way as Andy's which closed its main location after setting up shop at MGMkt and, then, eventually, closed its MGMkt.

    2. I was at Midtown Global Market today, and I talked to the owner. She says the St. Paul West Indies Soul is closing permanently (an issue between the co-owners, apparently, that can't be resolved). She explained that she's adding more dishes to the MGM menu as a result.

My belowed red snapper is available Wednesdays and Fridays. Goat is also available once or twice a week, but I forget which days (maybe Thursday? Friday?).

And if I could remember to park in the MGM multi-story lot, I would get free parking with validation. So all is not lost.
