Time for Farmers' Market reports

The Copley Square Farmers' Market open yesterday and other markets around the area will open this week and next.

I went to Copley and bought greens, bread, cookies, radishes and lunch.

It was certainly good to see so many of my favorite farmers after a long winter. Naturally, there are lots of potted plants this time of year but both Atlas Farm and Siena Farms had a good selection of early crops.

There are photos, links and a bit more information on my site.

Next??? Has your market opened? What did they have? Any new vendors??

Yes, they usually have a nice selection of bread, rolls, bagels, croissants and pecan buns

Stillman's was at Charles Square last Sunday.
Siena at Copley last Tuesday had lots of neat veggies, including bags of stinging nettles.

Yes, I forgot about those and they were being careful to tell customers not to touch them.

Government Center is teh one closest to work and opens on the Wednesday (?) after Memorial Day Weekend.

Stillman starts at Copley and Government Center after Memorial Day Weekend. According to Aidan, Stillman is teaming up with some bakers who relocated from San Francisco to Hardwick and will be offering sandwiches filled with meat from Stillman.

Silverbrook Farm was at the South End Open Market this past weekend but all they had were potted plants for now.

I can barely contain my excitement at getting heirlooms again.

Thanks Esqdork! I really like Silverbrook. They are at my Farmers market in Provincetown and I see them when I visit the City Hall Plaza Market. Now I know I can pick up items on Sundays in the South End.

A market a day keeps the corporations at bay.

Silverbrook was a Copley today (Friday) and they had blue or brown eggs. I had fun photographing the blue ones I bought this afternoon and will have them over the weekend with an Italian summer truffle I bought this week as a gift for my husband!

I also picked up some green garlic (Siena) to grill at a cookout on Sunday.

BZ -- the eggs with truffle sound great. Lucky you, and lucky husband. Thanks for the tip on green garlic. Always wondered what to do with that.

              Have a great weekend!

Silverbrook and Sienna also had a good selection of greens..kale, lettuces, arugula..few more, radishes.

I made the mistake of getting there about 12:30 and both places had long lines.

There was also a local farm selling goat cheese.

They are starting a farmer's market in Winchester on Saturdays! Yahoo! If anyone lives in the area, please please go so that the farmers get good business and keep coming back!

I live in the next town over, but don't shop in Winchester because the prices are exhorbarant (sp?). I will check out the farmer's market though, thanks.

I am chomping at the bit. But alas Union Square wont open until June 7. I just returned from a trip out west, and the Boise Farmer's Market was in full throttle. Made me wonder again why ours open so damned late.

Oh and here is another picture. We don't have any "Rabbit Wranglers" in our local markets, do we? Love how they call it "Europe's other white meat".
