Good Burgers & Chili Dogs in Covina?

Will be spending some time in Covina and wanted to know where I can get some good burgers and/or chili dogs in that part of town. Thanks!

Try the loco moco at Rutt's. The burger is hand-made island style and served on top of sticky rice. Two fried eggs are on top of the burger and brown grevey is on top of everything. Another good plate lunch there is the Royale. However, it is best when ordered with fried rice -- I like the bacon fried rice Royale. The burger special is made with a common burger patty and therefore is only special in price. Located inside a supermarket and is open at 9:30 to about 8:00.

Rutt's Cafe (Located inside Marukai market)
1420 South Azusa Avenue, West Covina, CA 91791

I like Rutt's too. And I often get the Royal with fried rice. I like it even better when I remember to tell them "no moyashi"

I had to search for the meaning of moyashi. I stopped at Rutt's several days ago and when I ordered the Royale the counter person asked if I wanted sprouts. I said "No." I also think it is better w/out sprouts but usually forget to request it be w/out sprouts. That was the first time they asked.

Not sure if they have chili dogs, but I like the charbroiled burgers at Alpha Omega drive-through in Covina on Citrus Ave

I usually go to the North Woods Inn in Rosemead but the one located on Azusa in Covina is also very good. The sirloin burgers and dogs are served with their special rice and salad. A dark cool North Woods log ambiance inside and best of all -- lthose arge schooners of beer.

Check out the menu and if you go also try thre cheese toast.

Below is a post by a Chowhound I respect. The place posted about is just to the north -- maybe 5 to 7 min drive. I have the place on my to-do list.

If you want faux chili dogs and chil burgers (aka veggie), you can hit up Covina Tasty in an ol reconverted Tastee Freez.

Hey kevin, I have no idea where that place is. I recall reading about it in the SGV Tribune years ago. The ariticle said how popular the place was with the all veggie menu but Tastee Freeze wanted the sign changed, or whatever? It was also stated that the owner/cook made some very good dishes and was popular at lunch time and dinner time. Can you tell me what street/corner? My thanks

                    JJ,

Here's the address of the tiny joint, it's right near a 7-11 so blink and you'll miss it. By the way, it's veggie but not necessarily vegan, he does offer cheese and the tastee freeze soft-serve, sundaes, fountain treats, etc are made with dairy.

                    Covina Tasty
                    1063 N. Citrus Ave
It's like 2 mi North of the 10 Fwy offramp, exit Citrus.

Great call. The chili dogs are startlingly good for the genre. His malts are pretty good too...

Colima Burger is truly foul. Sysco frozen patty, chili + fries. Heinous lines and equally foul smelling interior. I've heard Burger Depot is better? But not by much

Jake's exactly the same. One of the managers proudly mentioned the fact : "we buy from Sysco, one of the largest food distributors in America". No kidding? You don't say? Yes, they serve a bacon wrapped dog in the middle of the day. It's ok. And it's not cheap.

                    avoid both at all cost.

Thanks but, ah, I just got home from my first trip to Jake's. I had the large bacon wraped dog and agree -- it's ok. What I really liked was the "Frito Boat." Like the dog it was not cheap but there was enough. A french fry box with a pile of Frito's corn chips, a scopp of chili (probably canned) and two kinds of cheese on top. At the outside counter I added onion and sliced peppers. I miss being able to enjoy this kind of crap at other places. Yes, I said crap but I happen to like crap sometimes.

Are you looking for specifically Covina, or can surrounding areas like West Covina, San Dimas, Glendora, Walnut, also be included?

                    In Walnut try Colima Burgers,
