Where to buy kalbi and bulgogi bulk?

  • p

I'm looking for a place to buy Korean barbecue meat already marinated to feed 40 people. I'd prefer someplace in Ktown since I live on the Westside, but I'm open to hear of any suggestions for good quality, great tasting, and relatively inexpensive korean bbq meat. I'm guessing I need to get it from a Korean market. Thanks!

  1. I would love to know the answer to this too. I've seen it at parties coming out of a plastic "pickle" bucket.

    1. Freshia Market on Torrance and Crenshaw Blvds has fresh marinated meats at a reasonable price. You also can purchase bulk sliced kalbi crossribs at Sam's Club if you want to make it yourself.

      1. We usually go to the market in the ABC Plaza which is just north of Olympic Blvd. on the east side of Western Ave. You enter the plaza on the side street which is on the north side of the complex (James M. Woods St.?) and the market is on the ground floor. They have a big deli as you walk in on the right side.

        1. I usually order from the meat counter at Hannam Chain Market (on Olympic, one block west of Vermont). I think they need one day's notice for big orders, I haven't ordered in a few years, but when I did, I used to order 50 pounds of bulgogi at a time for parties.

          1. when i am lazy, i go to california market or hankook market. both are on western, north of wilshire.

            1. I like the marinated meats at choice meats better than those at the big grocery stores. Choice meats has a couple of locations in Koreatown. One is at Third and Western, I think there is another on Olympic just west of Vermont.

Do you have approximate prices per pound of the kalbi and the bulgogi? Also, are there other meats that you'd suggest that would be crowd pleasers? Is Choice meats more expensive?

                1. re: pchen

Definitely more expensive than supermarkets, but better quality as well. Kalbi is $6.29/lb and bulgogi is $7.99/lb. They also have pork belly and unmarinated meats.

Wow, that's pricey. I get my bulk kalbi and bulgogi from Arcadia Korean Market and it's as low as $4 a pound if I buy 30 pounds. But with gas prices these days....

              2. I always found kalbi really good at AR market in garden grove (on garden grove blvd). Better than any place in ktown IMO. But it is a bit of a drive. I just bought some coupla days ago and it was 3.99/pound. Bulgogi was 2.99/pound. I don't think you need to tell them in advance either. A person in line behind me ordered 35lbs. of kalbi without an advance order.
The galleria market in ktown also has good meat, although I haven't been there in awhile.
