favorite out door brunch in all nyc, and then only uws please
intrepid, places where i've brunched with my pup on the uws:
neptune room (very good brunch)
fred's (so-so brunch)
cafe con leche in the 70s (fairly good, very nice about the pup)
lucia's (portuguese tapas, so-so food)
i've also seen people at french roast with their dogs, though i think that seating's a little tight / awkward. the sidewalk is so narrow, someone could step on your dog's tail... =(
outdoor seating, but NOT dog friendly: isabella's, gabriella's, northwest, ocean grill (or sea grill ... i never remember which is the uws resto an which is the rock center one)
I hadn't realized at first that you were interested in dog friendly, but I've had good luck at Cornelia Street (cheap, decent breakfast, water bowls for dogs) and at Po, for lunch. We're not big brunch people, so I don't have other suggestions.
Edit - I've also seen dogs outside at Tabla.
UWS options: Nice Matin (sidewalk), Sarabeth's on 80th/Amsterdam (sidewalk, though they have very few tables outside).
Outside the UWS: Pastis (sidewalk), Veselka (sidewalk), Paradou (garden), maybe Aquagrill (I think it's an enclosed patio though - possibly not dog friendly), 7A (very dog friendly, I see pups in the sidewalk enclosure all the time), Five Points (dog friendly, only a few outdoor tables though), Noho Star (dogs have to be outside enclosure though, and there's a lot of foot traffic), Chinatown Brasserie (dog friendly, ditto), Taralluci e Vino (I think only EV location has outdoor tables though), Morandi (dog friendly, no sidewalk barriers, yay).
Yup, definitely dog friendly! Sarabeth's might a little more awkward 'cause there's no barrier between you and the sidewalk crowds, though. Nice Matin has a big nice patio.
I have a dog and the problem is that the places with the big patios tend to be only OK in brunch quality (like Hi-Life or Fred's). Solid, but not exemplary. My other favorite brunch spots in that neighborhood (The Neptune Room, Barney Greengrass, Ouest) don't have outdoor seating. I have only lived in the West 80s though (and not any more), so you might find more if you go north or south.
