Hi all. I am looking for a good anniversary spot for my husband and I to celebrate our 5th. I'm looking for something more upscale and romantic. My problem is that, since having weight loss surgery my stomach can only handle very small portions. I don't want to let that affect the time together and I want to be able to order something that is both tasty and different. Since we are planning to go out right after dinner and might possibly decide to metro it, there probably isn't going to be a way to get the food home. I'm open to anywhere in the metro area.

Any suggestions would be awesome!
Thank you!

Perhaps you should consider Proof. I recently went there and had a full meal, but decided its probably best just to stick to the appetizers/small plates and share. If you go to a restaurant that specializes in small plates you can completly control the amount of food you eat. The appetizers/first courses are more then enough to share with out having you feel stuffed. Plus you can order 2 or 3 and then if you decide you want more, you can order a cheese course or a dessert to share.

If you go to Proof, I highly recommend one of your dishes be the incredible gnocchi!! (It comes in 2 sizes, but the smaller size is more then enough to share).

Tapas-sized plates are the focus at Zaytinya, Jaleo and Oyamel in the Penn Quarter area.

If you go to Cafe Atlantico on Sunday, you can do the Latin dim sum brunch (you don't have to do the full offering - you can order a la carte). The dim sum offerings are one or two bites.

The new wine bars, Cork and Vinoteca both feature small plates.

What about sashimi and/or sushi? You can stick to smaller choices. I like Kaz but if you search this board you'll get a lot of opinions on other places.

Tabera del Alabardero has a fabulous happy hour featuring 1/2 prices tapas. The special only runs until 7:00, however.

Have a lovely celebration!

Marcel's has very rich French food in smaller portions, I just told someone in another thread asking about it they would want to do 5 courses so it would be enough food, but you could probably just do the three course, although it is really rich fatty food, so if you want something lighter, I second Proof or Zaytinya.

Marcel's would be a great choice. All the portions are small so you would probably be able to do the three course meal perfectly. It is upscale, romantic, and IMO perfect for an anniversary.
