Restaurant in Santa Monica to Watch the Game?

a_and_w May 18, 2008 06:56 PM

I'm looking for a restaurant, not a sports bar, where I can watch the NBA playoff game Monday night. A good beer selection would be a plus, but the food and TV are more important to me. I'd also prefer to stay in Santa Monica but Brentwood and Westwood are also a possibility. Any ideas?

kings head - 2d/santa monica - has pretty good food (lamb samosas are to die for and the scotch egg and fish/chips are pretty good) and nice beer selection. not positive they play nba games.

yankee doodles on the promenade has pretty good standard bar food (not sure about beer selection) - but full bar.

south - wilshire near stanford - has "southern" food and lots of unique cocktails.

Father's Office was my first thought, too. How big is the tv?

TV is small and they don't typically have the volume on but maybe it'll be different tonight given the game. Maybe call Warszawa and see if they'll be showing it on the huge screen on the back patio. You can order food back there and it's a fun setting when they're showing sporting events.

The Parlor if you consider it a restaurant (they have waitresses that serve you and booth seating. Its probably more a bar but its extremely condusive to watching sports.

The food is good for bar food (sloppy joes, happy hour specials, nachos, phily cheesesteak sandwhich...it all tends towards more unique/upscale bar food) and they have a nice beer selection (hoeegarden on tap). They also have a lot of HDTVs including a round of 8 in the center of the place.

dunno any good "restaurants" that would be great to watch the game, most won't even have the volume on.

We went to South last weekend for a party. http://www.chowhound.com/topics/502718 In short, the drinks are excellent (and the beer selection looked good); the food not so much, although we were eating from a pre-selected menu so maybe not a fully fair basis for evaluation, It is, however, a very good layout for sports and for a New Orleans-San Antonio matchup a place called "South" would seem to be a natural.

        ( Go Hornets!

        )

I haven't been to Kings Head in a few years but based on older experience I would echo dtud that the food there was always quite good.

I've been disappointed with the Parlor. The food was pretty bad even for bar food, the seating/atmosphere is uncomfortable, and the drinks are overpriced. I think Between Parlor, South and Q's - all on Wilshire, i'd prefer Q's, with South being a close second. But these are all sports bars with decent food, so maybe not what you're looking for.

I would second the suggestion of King's Head, good food and drinks. Chaya Venice might be decent. They have a bar area with a TV, but that's definitely like a 75/25 food to sports experience ratio, whereas with King's Head it's closer to 50/50.

The TV at Father's Office is tiny and i think they will probably have the volume down, i would definitely not go there if you want anything more than being able to check the score on a regular basis.

My friend likes the idea of watching the game at South with the New Orleans crowd, so that's where we're headed. Thanks to all for the tips and go CP3!

Should be fun. Not in Santa Monica, but I watched last Wednesdays game (a sad night for Utah Jazz fans :(....) at the Del in Playa del Rey. I loved the setting and we had some great steak tartare, beer battered fried oysters and a fried softshell crab while we watched. Might keep that one in mind for future games.

Mollyo - is the patio open at the Del yet?

Not yet, although our waiter said it's not far off. That'll be an awesome place to grab drinks when it does!

I was just going to suggest South as I just had lunch there today and noticed many TV screens around. Food is OK but should be a fun place to watch the game.
