Is the River Cafe really, really good?

If you're in NYC enough to be able to eat at the top 25 restaurants or are only concerned with the food, then not. It's not Eleven Madison Park. But if you want food that's above the norm, even for the price, in an atmosphere that's magic, then by all means go. That's why you'll find me and the missus there this Wednesday night for our anniversary.

Does this place have a patio area? I can't seem to frind any good pics but I'm thinking about taking my g/f there when we are in the city.

Yes. Different (informal) menu. Easy to get a drink and a small bite, then move on. I'm pretty sure it's now open... call and check.

We live on Roosevelt Island so it's a hop,skip and a jump for us to drive there. We just ahve a couple of drinks on the outside (they'll let you if it's early and not crowded). If you live in Manhattan call for a reservation (for dinner) and the ferry will pick up up at 35th Street.

I think it is good, solid, high cuisine which is more about presentation and the nice view. In short: no. However it is rather pleasant to eat there.

Agreed. The food was fine but you can definitely get better food in other upscale restaurants at around the same price. What you are paying is the view and nice decor, which in some occasions, can be very important.
