Mercatto?

I am working on bay street and walked by mercatto on my way to lunch, and thought the menu looked interesting. I read one recommendation on the board and was curious of others opinions or suggestions on what to order.
Also would I need reservations?

Hi Cupcakez, Went to that particular location a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised. The menu choices are limited but all done well. My advice is to not sit too close to the open kitchen as it gets smoky and quite chaotic -- that night the owner was there and kept barking out orders to the kitchen staff. I don't think you need a reservation because we went on a Saturday night and the restaurant was only 70% full. I prefer their food over Terroni any day. Hope this helps.

I usually go to the Toronto Street location but the food generally with Mercatto is pretty good. If they have it their Eggplant Parmesan is quite good and very reasonable.

2nd their Toronto Street location. It's a regular of mine and always pleased. My current fave is their Niagara Sausage served with Rapini. Delish!

I've been to the Toronto St location quite a few times. The food has usually been good. The service can be good, but also quite awful, depending on whom you get. It is often a madhouse at lunch.

Went into the Bay Street location the other evening, and found it to be absolutely delightful. For appetizers we shared some local artisan prosciutto with walnuts. This was as perfect as it gets! I'm salivating just thinking about it. For mains, I had the Italian sausage pizza while Miss L had the prosciutto pizza. We were both delighted with the light, tasty flavors and the beautifully thin oven-baked crust. This is not your regular pizza; this felt like it was made just for us, and there wasn't all the ususal greasy stuff that so many pizzas come with. This was perfection!

The service was excellent, attentive and very friendly in a comfortable way. I would definitely visit Mercatto when I'm in Toronto again.

Mercatto on Toronto street is my FAVOURITE restaurant! It's hip yet casual. The waiters/waitresses are fairly laid back. We go there at least once or twice a month. The food is great, especially their specials! I would recommend dinner over lunch as it is usually less busy at night.
