Affordable & atmospheric dining in Park Slope? (near 11th St.)

groupie_supreme May 15, 2008 04:15 PM

Just moved in and would like to get to know the neighborhood as soon as possible! I'm a student on a reasonable budget and looking for relaxed but nice places to go with my boyfriend or a few friends.

try bar toto...6th ave and 12th st (maybe 11th? around there though)

it's not cheap exactly, but then again neither is sidecar. pasta dishes run from like $9 - $13, if i remember correctly, so if you're careful you can get away with not spending too much. anyway, it's nice, simple italian, nice atmosphere, good neighborhood place. if i didn't live in sunset park i'd be there all the time...

i'll second both sidecar & bar toto. if you're into wine and like to byob, both scalino(italian) and watana(thai) are corkage friendly(as in FREE!). both are on 7th ave.

          In south slope:

Little D is very good food and nice for a date. Good atmosphere and nice outdoor space in the back.

          Kinara is excellent Indian.

Applewood is a very nice space, but I think the food is overrated and overpriced. If you're going to spend that much, go to Al di La (the neighborhood's best restaurant and not hugely expensive for what it is) or Stone Park Cafe (great, but pricey).

Anthony's Pizza is also solid brick oven pizza, and a nice place for dinner.

12 street bar & grill (12th/8th ave) is a good brunch option nearby
