Cheese Store in OC?
Is there a good place to buy cheese in OC? The "gourmet markets" such as Bristol Farms, Gelson's and Whole Foods have a decent selection, but I don't think they take very good care of their cheeses, and I have purchased over-ripe cheeses from all three. I often buy cheese from igourmet.com which is a first class operation, but it obviously cannot give me the opportunity to taste a new (to me) cheese before buying it. I have heard about the Frog's Breath Cheese Store in Orange, but don't know much about it. Does anyone have a recommendation for this OC cheese lover?

Picnics is goold but very small selection.
Try Laguna Culinary Arts. Its a small inline shop in a center by the Laguna Sawdust Festival on Laguna Canyon road. Best cheese selection I have found in OC. Really nice and let you taste everything. weblink attached, hit tab for cheese and wine shop.

It's been about a year, but Frog's Breath was a good experience when I visited them. They have a small (relative to the non plus ultra in the southland, The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills) but nicely chosen selection, and the person helping me was very knowledgeable, eager to offer tastes of the cheeses I showed interest in and they take good care of their stock. Good stuff !
Also, consider Pascal Epicerie on Bristol Street North, just south and east of John Wayne Airport. Great little French gourmet take-away, with a nice selection of French cheeses, among other goodies (inluding some really nice wines at good prices)!
If you're in the Tustin area, there's Black Sheep Bistro (on El Camino Real in the Old Town area of Tustin), which has a nice cold case featuring french and spanish cheeses, charcuterie etc. Call before you go because the hours are not the standard 9 to 9 etc.

re: mrsjoujou
Totally forgot about them and Pascal's. Although I have never been impressed with the staff's knowledge at either, as I was at Picnics.
I'm mixed on Frog's Breath - pretty good selection - probably the largest in OC, but the service was very slow and as I recall they were rather difficult to deal with. YMMV.

re: emily
Kind of impatient and the guy I spoke with didn't seem all that knowledgeable. He told me Gorgonzola Dolce was a very sweet version of regular Gorgonzola! Well, I guess that's the literal translation :) And kept correcting the way I pronounced Gouda with the American pronunciation. I bit my tongue...
