Phx Indian food please
hi I have a meeting at metrocenter which will be over around 12, and then two hours before work at the b-more. Any good places I can hit tomorrow in that time frame? Been to flavors a few times and would like to try something different/better.
Also, is Indian somewhat healthy? It doesn't ever seem greasy or harsh, but I'm starting to watch my calorie intake, so would it be an ok choice?
Thanks in advance
Given the area of the original postres' request, I would recommend Maharajah Palace, at 59th Ave. and Bell. Their lunch buffet is pretty good, but their dinner menu is excellent. I see quite a few students from AGSIM / Thunderbird there regularly. As someone who lives on the west side of the Valley, why is it that only anything East of 24th St gets any mentions? (sorry, pet peeve)

And even better, as I've recommended numerous times, Tandoori Village at 43rd Ave. and Bell. The service is far from great, but the food is nearly always outstanding. A friend of mine who grew up in India calls this some of the best Indian food he's had in this country.

My favorite is Star of India. On the south side of Chandler road west of the 10--various addresses list it in Ahwatukee and Phoenix, so I'm not sure of its exact designation. It's in the corner of a shopping center that includes a Trader Joe's and a Safeway.
The food is incredible, the family that runs it incredibly gracious and friendly, the prices very affordable. When we want Indian, we make the drive, despite quite reasonable closer options.
I found Taste of India very bland. I appreciate that it is family owned, and popular, but I just don't get it. I found the food very subpar (I honestly think many of the frozen dinner Indian food products are way tastier).
I ate at a good restaurant on Hayden Road, about a mile south of Frank Lloyd Wright, that was quite good. I was there with a few native Indians, and they liked it as well (so that is a testament to its authenticity).

Indian food has a healthful image due to its many vegetarian options, but it can actually be very high in fat due to the amount of ghee, or clarified butter, used in preparation.
One possibility is a place called Bombay Spice, which is located at 16th St. & Glendale (NW corner -- Walgreens shopping center), right on the way from MetroCenter to Biltmore. It's Indian with a healthful twist. Some people I know love it; others find it underflavored.
Regardless, it's likely to have less of a calorie payload than the typical Indian buffet.
