We'll be in Manhattan ever so briefly. I am looking for great Italian. We will be staying
in Chelsea but take the subway all over the city. We ate at Babbo last visit and actually were somewhat underwhelmed. We'd probably go with less pricey and love small neighborhood places even more than destination restaurants.

  1. Some of my favorites: Crispo, Apizz, Peasant, Lupa, Po, Otto

    1. im with you...very underwhelmed by batali places.

id try these...my favorite italian spots...more on the low end:

      da andrea
      'ino
      bianca
      gradisca
      apizz

and in brooklyn...al di la and noodle pudding

most of these places do not take reservations but the wait isnt too bad. i can promise you some excellent neighborhood casual italian here.

      1. I second Lupa, Otto, and 'ino

        1. what didn't you like about babbo?

          1. You're getting a lot of Batali suggestions here, but if you didn't like Babbo, I wouldn't bother with the others.

Lavagne, Gnocco, Franks would probably fit what you're looking for.

              Peasant is another.

            2. Of all of the suggestions thus far, I'd vote for Apizz.
