Frankie's Gourmet of Fastfood (Tampa)

  • 1

So this is the new place at the corner of Kennedy and Boulevard. Apparently it is a chain from Connecticut (http://www.frankieshotdogs.com). On the menu are a variety of hotdogs, hamburgers, fried seafood and such. The hotdogs are a thin footlong type with various toppings. The Mexican dog has a nice chilli. Another dog called the Portuguese had onions and mushrooms. There is a condiment stand on the side where you can dress your dog with sweet or hot relish, sauerkraut, fresh or New York style onions. All of the condiments are good, particularly the hot relish. All in all, it's a pretty satisfying hot dog as my wife put it. I also had the scallops which were nicely fried but pretty small. On a different note, there is a new upscale BBQ place going in around the corner on Platt and Boulevard. It's called Smoke and their sign says that they will have pork shoulder and brisket among other things. I don't typically go for upscale BBQ, but it looks like it might have potential.

  1. Thanks for the heads-up, might give Frankie's a try this weekend. As for Smoke, I hope it succeeds, but that corner is kind of the kiss of death: if a combination cuban sandwich/auto detail shop couldn't make it there, what can, I ask?!
