Steak around Yonge & Eglinton

I have a group a guys for a stag and we are looking for a steak house in the vicinity of Yonge & Eglinton. I know there are some really good places downtown (Harbour 60, Hy's, Ruth, Morton, etc.), but we won't be able to get down there. Any suggestions?

  1. The only one I know of is Lola on Yonge, south of Eg. I've never been, though, so can't attest to the quality of the food.

There's also House of Chan on Eglinton west of Bathurst, but that's getting kind of farther afield.

    1. If you can get down to Yonge and St. Clair, you could go to Senior's. Old-timey vibe. But House of Chan is a great reco for a group of guys, I've done that before. Really kitschy decor and great steak.

      1. If you want "nice" manly steakhouse you pretty much have to come downtown, Or at least to Morton's in Yorkville. If you just want red meat and not fancy, Senior's has been grilling steaks for decades south of Yonge and St Clair. Not great quality meats and certainly not nice decor. But with a sense of humour and lots of cheap red you might have fun.

        1. I third the rec for House of Chan - great streak and very good atmosphere for a guy's night out.

          1. Tho I've never been, I've worked in various steakhouses downtown for years and have heard people sort of whispering about house of chan here and there, which I always found supprising, but maybe theres something to be said for the fact..

They did just open a Keg up there, not that I would call it the best of steakhouses, I've always believed its the best affordable steak in the city..

What do you mean by "sort of whispering" and "surprising" about HofC - in a good way? bad way? The fact that a Chinese resturant serves great steak (granted, odd but true!)?

            2. There is a newly opened Keg just south of Eglinton (East side) and I would recommend it for a stag. Prices are about half what other places charge for food and fairly reasonable for booze. A stag is for fun and noise, not $60 steaks.

I had an exceptional NY steak at Prime (Windsor Arms) last night. It is expensive as they all are but I would go back and have the Caesar and a NY and take a very good bottle of wine ($25 corkage) very few Steak joints allow you to bring wine as they tend to want to soak you on price.
