I heard that you can now find sushi in vending machines here in the U.S.... I refuse to believe that until I see more empirical evidence. Anyone know where such a novelty exists?

On St. Marks in NYC, there is a vending machine "store" that sells precooked foods like burgers and burritos in vending machines. Can't remember if they have sushi though. Vending machine sushi sounds really odd...I've definitely heard of weirder things. Maybe it is true!

I have no doubt the travesty is on its way and will offer jambalaya sushi, saffron sushi, and rice pudding sushi along with a selection of pink, blue, or lavender nori. I'm moving to a desert island!

Oops, after posting, I've realized you're looking for automat sushi, as opposed to conveyor-belt sushi. Sorry!

I actually already know about the automat on St. Mark's Place--I live right near it. I'm more curious about the possibility of finding sushi at a vending machine in the workplace or an airport or something like that...

Gaak! The idea makes my sto,ach turn. Sushi has such a short enjoyable shelf life. Within moments after being made it starts to go soggy. If chilled it's even faster. Supermarket sushi is pretty bad if it's been sitting for awhile. I can't even imagine what it would be like in a vending machine for hours, or days. Double Gaaak!
