Whole Foods coming to Rockland?

Has anyone heard a rumor about WF coming to Rockland County? Specifically to Route 59 in Central Nyack on the site of the old car dealership. Anyone know about this?

  1. I heard a rumor they were supposed to go to the space in Tappn that is now Duke's Ocean Grill, when I looked into it they said they had no plans to go into Rockland. That was awhile ago... I had also heard that Dean and Deluca were supposed to go into the new building across from the YMCA. I kinda don't see that happening either. Hear anything about it?

Well I know that the spot across from the YMCA will be a food market, but not a Dean and Deluca. It's supposed to be able to cater to all the levels in Nyack so you will have conventional groceries, organic/natural foods and produce and also a gourmet angle. Also, Dines Farms is going to have a kitchen/butcher shop in the space and you will be able to buy their poultry and pork products. Furthermore, the are supposed to build affordable housing in the space above (not Section 8 or low income). The person who is doing all this is a guy named Jeff who used to be a chef at Lutece some years back. I don't know if you recall about 6 years ago after the Coven Cafe closed, there was going to be a French restaurant going into that spot (not Hunters), but there was an accident where a moving truck crashed into the building...well that was the same guy's restaurant.
That's the info I have, but if someone can correct, add or clarify that would be great.

I'm glad to hear Dines farms will be there. I like their hot dogs. I bet my friend from the bus I ride into work on got Dines somehow mixed up with D&D. I won't see him for another week, but next time I do, I'll see if I can find out more (hopefully reliable!) info.

Ahh you're like in Rockland and work in NYC. The funny this is that I got some of my info from one of my commuting friends (I refer to him as one of my "train husbands" LOL.
Where in Rockland do you live? I live in Nyack.

Live in Piermont. Work in Soho. I know what you mean. You get very familiar with the folks you ride with.

    2. As much as I would LOVE for that to be true, (since that would put it in walking distance to my place), I find it hard to believe the demographics could support a WF there... Unfortunately, Rockland demographics can barely support anything good.

That's a pretty gross stretch of 59 (J&L auto, McDonalds, motorcycle dealer, audi dealer, etc,....)

I wouldn't expect a Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Stew Leonards, Fairway, Wegmans, or anything else along those lines to open in Rockland in my lifetime....

Good thing I live close to Westchester and Bergen....

**sigh** I know. I am just in complete denial.
I email Wegmans once a year and beg them to come to Rockland. They are always nice enough to send me a personal repsonse and not some canned reply. I refuse to get rid of my Wegamns card.

While Whole Foods isn't coming to Rockland there will be a Zeytinia coming to the Palisades mall sometime next year. I've been to the one in Oakland and while the selection is not as extensive as Whole Foods, I found most of the stuff to be of at least comparable quality.

That's cool. I work near "Zeytinz" on West 40th Street. Same owners.... It would be very good for a bite while shopping. I don't "shop" there now, and probably won't at the mall either.

There's one in lower manhattan and there is (or was) one at the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City "Latin Quarter" that is/was always very busy.
