We had dinner at Fig Tree Saturday night and my head is still spinning from the final bill. Whoa.

I had the seared foie gras over their hazelnut cake. It was tasty albeit expensive. The hazelnut cake was divine. The piece of FG was small for $17 and had a big vein in it that made it difficult to eat. SO had the mussels in a white wine cream sauce - these didn't impress me and sounded much better than they tasted. They didn't seem fresh. The chef was out of the duck confit tart w/ the blueberries. We were sad about that. They were also out of our wine selection. Friends had the scallop app w/ lobster butter - nice - and lamb wellington app - also good.

For dinner I had the stuffed Grateful Growers Farm pork chop which was overcooked and tough as nails to cut. It was accompanied by polenta fries which were heavenly! The haricot verts w/ bacon vinaigrette were really good as well. Other entrees at our table were good but not mind-blowing given the hefty price tag (lamb, scallops and elk).

Dessert included an amazing banana cheesecake w/ peanut butter cream - wow. Pressed coffee was good also.

The service was perfect. Our server was completely competent and made good suggestions including a glass of their sauterne to accompany my FG. The atmosphere was warm and they did an amazing restoration on this old craftsman-style home. They have outdoor seating on the front porch which looked quaint and comfy.

I'd return if they lowered their prices.

(It's good to be back to CH!!!)

Welcome back Lynn! $25 for a plate of risotto seems a tad expensive to you? I agree with you that the prices at this place are definitely not worth the quality of the food. That said, I find myself bringing clients here often because it is such a beautiful spot, especially the outdoor dining. But the owners need to be very careful that they don't follow the same path as the owners of Cibi, which occupied the spot previously. Great couple of months at the start, then they rested on their laurels. People will only pay for ambience for so long. I do love the lamb wellington though. Their Caesar salad is also very good. I wish them the best.

Is it under new management/ownership? I had a birthday dinner there a couple years ago and have not been back since. My opinion was right in line with yours in terms of a disconnect between price and quality.

It's been open for at least 3 1/2 years because I went to a wedding reception there back then. It was a GREAT spot for a smallish wedding.

I agree with everyone that the prices are too high for the food. The food is good, but the prices are just too much for just "good food." It's too bad, as I live right around the corner from the restaurant and would go there much more if they brought their prices down by $10-$15. I recall almost all of the entrees being priced over $30 with some priced over $40.

I do go to the bar on occasion to sit and drink some wine. The place has a wonderful atmosphere, and the people there are very nice.

All in all, I would say it's a good restaurant that's a bit overpriced. I would recommend it, but would always warn people about the prices.

Hello LL. I had dinner at Figtree about 6 months ago and it was superb, sorry it was not so for you. Why didn't you send anything back? Foie with a vein present is a major turn off and they should have spotted this before service.

Hey GFL. I probably should have sent the FG and the chop back but I suppose I'm not a big fan of "the send back". My biggest gripe was the prices. I could've lived with the few food issues if I didn't have to sell my first born to pay for it all. ;-) It's a nice place and the things they got right were tasty.

I really liked the bartender too. He made a good mojito and was a nice guy.

I understand. I often wonder what happens in the kitchen when food is sent back. What forms of revenge might take place. Sort of between a rock and a hard place. If all was excellent as it should have been $ probably never would have entered your mind. Top dollar deserves top food and service. Not to provide both is at the restaurant owners peril.
