Anyone know where I can find ginger beer (the alcoholic kind, not the plain ole soft drink kind)? If I took a trek to say charles st liquor or downtown spirits, would thye have that sort of thing?

Atlantic Brewing in Bar Harbor makes a beer with ginger - email them to see what retailers carry it. aleman52@adelphia.net

Or you can make some calls to the usual suspects like charles st, downtown, marty's, bauer, etc to see if they have it in stock before heading out.

That is a good suggestion. There seem to be few alcoholic ginger beers, many of them brewpub on premise offerings, bet Atlantic is one of the few packaging breweries avail in MA with this style. I prefer the non alcohol versions, Goya or home made at a Carribean restaurant.

Most microbrewed/brewpub beers with ginger go the subtle route. I inquired about the Ginger beer with the owner of Atlantic a few summers ago and he told me that when they first started making it, it was packed full of ginger like jamaican ginger beer, and even though the people at the brewery loved it, it just didn't sell that well so they had to cut back on the ginger profile.

Ordered a ginger flavored beer at a PF Changs in Louisville, KY once and the waiter was trying to sway me away from it saying most people return it because the ginger was too intense. I liked it and inquired about who made it for them, but the waiter didn't have a clue and seemed unwilling to find out for me.

I love the Ginger Ale soda at the People's Pint, would be cool if they made an alcoholic version.

When I run out of reasonably priced hops, this is something I will try to brew myself.

I emailed the guy @ atlantic but haven't heard back yet.

I liked the ginger beer @ PF Changs, the gf anymore. Speaking of whom, she's the one who is hot on the trail of said ginger beer (i should make her hunt it down!), at PFC and another place she had alcoholic ginger beer and now won't stop talking about trying to find a store that sells it.

Apparently my offer to pour ethanol into normal ginger beer wasn't good enough ;)

Just remembered a beer that might be available, Left Hand (CO) Juju Ginger. Ask for it at any decent beer store (Bauer, Wine Gallery, Liquor World, possibly Kappys) as I know the brand is distributed in MA.
