Keg of Rootbeer ??

Hey Fellow Hounds!

My family has an enormous summer party every year. We're always looking for fun additions and quirky things to do. I thought up a keg of rootbeer, and I've searched on Google...but to no avail. Have any of you had any luck renting one, or know where to get one? We're in Hunterdon county, but will travel all over NJ/PA to get one! Thanks for any help!!

There's a Dutchman at Roots Market (Tues., Manheim PA) that sells homemade root beer in gallon jugs. There's also a guy there who sells cherry/apple cider. Not sure I've ever seen kegs of root beer, though....

Have you tried the nearest Stewart's to see if they will rent you a keg? I love theirs.

Did you have any luck on your keg of rootbeer quest? We want to have a keg of root beer at our Memorial Day Party this year. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Would you happen to know the brand MGZ?

Anyone remember the brand that used to make clear birch beer? I think it was white rock.

Apparently Kutztown Bottling works still makes it. I never understood why companies put a caramel color in there if it's not needed. Their site says they sell their drinks by the quarter or half barrell

I've never tried their stuff but here's some NJ stores that sell it:

              Virgil's sells mini 5 liter Keg's (14 .12oz drinks) A couple of those should work well I love Virgil's

I know Abita brewing makes a rootbeer as well. Don't know if they sell it by the keg but Hunterdon Brewing Co. is their distributor in NJ. Their phone number is 908-454-7445. They may be able to help you. Also below is the link to Abita's website.

These people make 14 gallon kegs:

I don't know if birch beer is good enough for you but I do know Front Street Smokehouse in Elizabeth had it on tap last time I was there. Might want to give them a call.

A&W on Rt 1 in Edison has Rootbeer on tap as well. I'd imagine they would sell one for good will.

Most smaller NJ liquor stores don't carry many kegs of beer in stock, since they have a very short "shelf life", but can order you anything the distributors they deal with carry. I'm sure it's the same for kegs of *birch* beer. Can't say I've ever come across "kegs" of root beer- it's usually sold in the same containers than other sodas are sold in that require a separate carbonation system- which might be why Google isn't helping (tho' I think I recall that the upstate NY brewer of Saranac beer also does kegs of root beer which might be available in NJ, as well).

The old NJ brand, Briars, is owned by the family that owns the large Anheuser-Busch distributorship in central NJ, High Grade Beverage, so I imagine any liquor store in their distribution area should be able to get you a keg of that. http://www.hgbev.com/

Pretty sure I've also seen a keg of Birch Beer (can't recall the brand- maybe a PA. one?) in the large walk-in cooler at the Joe Canal's in Lawrenceville on US 1.
