Italian Rainbow Layer Cookies in San Francisco?

Anyone know of a bakery that makes / sells Italian rainbow layer cookies? I know of great places in NYC and Boston to get these, but need a place in SF!

Thanks.

    1. Victoria Bakery in North Beach makes neopolitan cookies. I have a vague recollection that Emporio Rulli makes them ... and those would be superior ... and vastly more expensive ... but I'm not sure about Rulli.

I love those cookies. During Easter Victoria also makes a Neopolitan cake which I'll get around to ordering one of these years.

no victoria bakery does not have them. In fact, i have called over 15 places and nobody seems to have them..except pi bar. sigh.

              Did you stop by

They might be called a different name. They have been a reliable source for this cookie for a few decades

            2. Lucky's at Gets on Sloat carries the packaged ones sometimes. I can't remember if they were from a back East bakery or if they were Grand Bakery's in Oakland but they're over with the rugelach and babka. Molly Stones might have them too.

Cafe Deluchi used to have them. I don't recall seeing them at Victoria when I was there recently, but I think I've seen them at Stella.... best to call with the North Beach places when you want something specific. Another name for them is Venetians, so you can also try asking for them that way if Rainbow cookies doesn't work.

                1. I think Stella carries them year round. Basically, just go to North Beach and peek around. There are several bakeries there. One of them is bound to have them.

Stella does NOT HAVE rainbow cookies either, sorry. used to, maybe.

                      • Hi All. Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, no luck... :-(

                        Any other suggestions out there?

Apparently also called Venetians. No luck but picture. Mike's in Boston doesn't seem to offer them on-line.

Pi Bar on Valencia has them. As far as I know, it's the only joint in town that has them. 1432 Valencia.

                                • yes, we have a winner. pi bar is the ONLY place in sf to buy rainbow cookies. dammit.

If they are the same cookie as the picture wolfe provided, I am not sure why they are not being found at victoria bakery. Emporio Rulli on Chestnut (now closed) had them. Do not know if the Union Square shop carries them.

Did not realize until today that there is a series of rainbow cookie pictures available on that page.

                                        2. Has anyone tried Dianda's Italian Bakery in the Mission. It's been around forever and I use to go when I worked and hung out in the Mission.

                                            1. These are my favorites! I don't know about in SF, but in Concord, we have Alpine Bakery, and they have these cookies almost all the time. I know they make more around the holidays, but I bought a cake there on Saturday and saw a whole tray of these waiting for you!

                                                1. Someone else wants them too and found some at Pi Bar.

                                                    1. Shocking that a rainbow cookie isn't a best seller in San Francisco. Sounds like it just needs some marketing.

Thorough made rainbow shortbread in June for Pride; not especially good, and not the cookie described here. But great looking, and near the Castro, flying off the racks.
