Jr's BarBQ in Norman OK?

Stormchaser coming to OKC next week and pleased to see that the Krispy Kreme I always struggled to avoid has been replaced by a BBQ joint. As a lover of good BBQ I am excited to have it within walking distance of our base hotel, but am curious to see if it lives up to my hopes. Has anyone been? Is it at least decent? Do they really smoke the meat? Do you need to take a shower after eating there (which would be a plus, I like it spicy and I want to sweat...)?

  1. I don't live in Norman but my best friend does so I am always on the look out for good food there for when I go visit. Do you mean J. R.'s Family BBQ in Norman? Its owned by Jim Ross, the commentator for WWE. The local Yahoo reviews have been complimentary about the food. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Yes, that is the place, and that is indeed helpful! If some of the locals think it is good, then I am likely to believe them. Thanks!

JR's is ok. It has a nice, new chain look to it. The side dishes are better than the meat in my opinion, but the meat is ok. It is managed by the Hal Smith Restaurant Group that manages Toby Keith's I love this Bar & Grill in Bricktown. Hal Smith is a former president of the Steak & Ale chain who has built a small restaurant empire in the Oklahoma City area with Charleston's, Red Rock Canyon Grill, Mahogany Steak House, the Kryspy Kreme Franchises, Louie's, and Boomerang Grill. He also built the first few Outback franchises in Oklahoma then sold them back to the company. JR Ross does live in Norman and actually shows up at JR's often. He is planning on building another JR's up the road in Moore soon.
