Lunch between Miami and Key West

Used to fly into Miami and drive to Key West, but I haven't done it in a number of years. There was a place I always stopped for lunch in Islamorda... next to a big sporting goods store. I want to say it was called the Islamorda Fish Company?? I have a friend at work that is making the drive next month for the first time and asked me for a good place to grab lunch along the way. Is this place still there?? Still good?? Any other suggesstions???

You might want to swing by "Robert is Here" fruit stand and enjoy a lime milkshake or smoothie of tropical fruits and browse the stands and enjoy a light lunch/snack.

Morada Bay is a much better choice than the Islamorada Fish Co. In Key West, it doesn't get much better than lunch on Louie's Backyard Afterdeck. Get a shady table, hope that it's breezy and enjoy. Unfortunately, Alice's has closed but all the other above listed places are going strong and there is not a bad choice in the bunch. The Robert is Here fruit stand is a great idea but check the hours of operation, I think they close for about 6 weeks in Sept. and Oct.

I travel pretty frequently between Miami and Key West and every chance I get I go to Morada Bay Cafe. It is just north of the Islamorada Fish Company and in the same location as Pierre's. The food is delicious and I love being able to sit in the sand while enjoying my lunch---on a work day. MM 81.6 http://www.moradabay-restaurant.com/

I have heard so many good things about Morada Bay on message boards, but it's not in any guidebooks, which I like. Thanks for the rec!

I found this post while doing a "Louie's Backyard" search. Ate there in 2005 and had a wonderful experience, but all the message boards and reviews on Tripadvisor make me want to skip the meal and just go for a drink. Does anyone have any recent Louie's-specific experience?

        Thanks for any input!

Chowfather, tell me if you agree with this list of dining plans for our trip in June to Key West:

          Thursday Lunch @ Hogfish
          Thursday Night @ Louie's Backyard
          Friday Lunch @ Sarabeth's
          Friday Dinner @ Blue Heaven
          Saturday Dinner @ 7 Fish
          Sunday Brunch @ Blue Heaven

Thoughts on additions or removals? Need some good lunch suggestions that are not on Duval St or on the docks.

Sparky's Landing in Key Colony Beach is a great stop for lunch. Nice locals hangout on the water.

Had a great lunch at Hogfish (hogfish sandwich)
Didn't hear great things about Louie's backyard so we passed.
We enjoyed Banana Cafe for breakfast instead of Blue Heaven
Wanted to go to 7Fish but they were closed the night we wanted to go. I'll hit that next trip down
I would recommend Alice's for dinner. Great meal.
B.O.'s is another place we missed. Top of my list for lunch next time.

Sarabeth's is great for breakfast and lunch, we have done it the last 2 times in Key West. We have not been for dinner, but hear it is good as well.
