lunch in Toms River ideas

Taking my mother-in-law out for lunch on Saturday. Her idea of a good meal is at the diner in Holiday City. I don't know the area. Does anyone know of a place with decent and not-too-exotic food? Of course it would be great if the prices were reasonable, but I'm more interested in eating some quality food. TIA

i would second bgut's recommendation of bistro 44, chef eric is a real talent. i know you said not too exotic, but el familiar and nobi, both in TR, are both great and both have things that aren't too out there, imo at least. also try basil t's. we had an excellent meal there a few weeks ago, though all were specials. i don't think we had anything off the regular menu.

You might want to try Villa Amalfi on Route 66 just north of Route 37 - I suggested it to my mother a couple of weeks ago when she was taking a Holiday City friend of hers out for a birthday lunch, and all four ladies raved about it. It's clean, extremely reasonable, and the food is quite good.

I'm a huge fan of Bistro 44 downtown on Washington Street. I eat lunch there at least once a week. The River Market is also a nice albeit more casual alternative.

Babs - On Main Street right next to the Java Joint. It's in the space formally occupied by the old Jeffrey's lunch spot, Pumpernickels and most recently Tiki Taco. As is evident from the large crowds at lunch, it looks like this restaurant will stick.
