Guest judge on next week's Top Chef

Based on the preview, seems like the next week's guest judge is a big deal. We only get a brief glance at his back but I was thinking that it might be Sam Talbot from Season 2's Top Chef. He and Tom are good buddies so it is plausible. Any other ideas?

I thought it was Sam too, but my gf said she didn't think so. I'm sticking with my guess. It'll be interesting to see if they let Ted allen anywhere near him. He was infatuated with him during season 2.

      I dislike Sam, honestly.

I personally hold behind a little theory that he tried to sabotage Marcel's dish with that other chef by purposely forgetting the fish, and than saying the entire dish was his creation. I watch a lot of reruns and entertain conspiracy theorys.... ;)

Yeah, Sam doesn't really "up the ante", but having Jose Andreas is kind of interesting

...especially since Richard and Jose used to work together at El Bulli

Was Richard there at the same time as Andreas? I know they both did stints there (though I think Richard was more of a staging stint), but I'm not sure their time overlapped at all.

Andrés does a stint there every summer, I'm sure they worked together

It would be REALLY funny if in the coming weeks Grant Achatz becomes a guest judge, another person Blais has worked with when they were both at TFL

I thought that they would be willing to forget season 2 entirely.

It must be Sam. If it was a chef of any note they would certainly advertise that fact. Not shroud it in mystery so that we'd all tune in.

I agree with you all that Sam is probably not the most fitting judge given the talent that has already been assembled as judges. In looking at the TV guide preview, the challenge appears to be putting a healthy twist on traditionally unhealthy fare. I think they are probably going to incorporate the fact that Sam is a diabetic and thus has unique knowledge in this type of challenge.

the health angle would certainly help explain the choice. i think it's interesting to see former "cheftestants" assess the work of the current crop...having been through it themselves, they can offer a unique perspective/approach that other judges can't.

I was kinda wondering the same thing. What exactly is Sam doing nowadays? Doesn't Tom have other good buddies more worthy of being a judge. Sam is perfect eye candy though. Jose Andreas...ummm...not so much!

I think he's supposedly opening up a seafood shack in Montauk, Long Island.

it's definitely sam - you can tell by the way he stands.

Very nice! And a perfect former cheftestant for this challenge, given his diabetes. It'll be nice to ogle Sam again. (Wait - did I write that aloud?)
