Anyone been to Cristal Room? Suggestions for 40th bday dinner

Will be in Paris in June for the first time! Our last night in Paris is also my 40th bday so I want to go somewhere special for dinner (not $1000 at le Cinq or AJR). We like hipper places (but with good food) rather than someplace that is maybe for an older crowd. I was looking at Cristal Room but can't find any reviews. has anyone dined there? What are the prices like (for 2 people with wine). Thank you!

  1. I have no personal experience there, but was also researching the Crystal Room for a special dinner and found this on the Travel+Leisure site:

    Cristal Room Baccarat
Most restaurants attached to brand names are worth avoiding for the homogeneity they inevitably deliver. The Cristal Room Baccarat is the sumptuously appointed exception to this rule: the Empire-chic interior is the work of Philippe Starck (the raw brick-and-gilt walls are not to be overlooked); chef Thierry Burlot changes his refined Gallic menu on a monthly basis; and at dinner the room is suffused with the exquisite glow cast by candelabra and, of course, Baccarat chandeliers. T+L TIP Step into the 10-seat, terraced private dining room to view the first black-crystal chandelier Baccarat ever created.

    hope that helps.

Here's what Pudlo says, "Close-set tables, lost waiters and absurd checks". The chef's other place is rated higher, for about 1/3 the price.

    2. I have never been there, but I'm going to guess that if you ask the hounds here for some great recs for a special birthday, you won't be disappointed.

That T&L writeup did not sound like a place I would want to spend that kind of money.

I have celebrated "special" birthday dinners at both Taillevent and Maceo, two very different places, and been truly feted and dined excellently.
