Smoked fish for Mother's Day brunch...

Other than Barney Greengrass and Zabar's and the other usual suspects, where do folks go to get their sable? lox? baked salmon? I am ready to chow on some smoked fish for mother's day brunch.

thanks in advance.

  1. You should try Russ & Daughters.

    1. I love Russ & Daughters, but Sable's on the UES is very good too.

      1. i usually go to citarella or zabar's on the UWS or if I am in midtown, I go to daniel's bagels on 3rd ave. and 37th, but I have only purchased nova there and although more expensive, it is excellent. Russ and Daughter's is probably the best place for selection.

        1. Murray's Sturgeon Shop. Not only great smoked fish, but a throughback to shopping 50 or 100 years ago.

          1. Russ & Daughters-on Houston, east of 1st Ave. The best!!!

            1. Ess-a-Bagel on First and 22nd St has very good Nova and excellent bagels and cream cheese. Though they sell sable etc, that never has as much turnover as the lox. Lines won't be as bad as they can be at Russ and Daughters. Citarella lox is fine, again I don't think the turnover on their other smoked fish is much and their bagels are boring.

              1. murray's surgeon on the uws...the best...make sure to try the whitefish salad
