Hot Dogs @ The Field in Sherman Oaks, anyone been?

orythedog May 7, 2008 11:06 AM

So, there is a new place in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd by the Cadillac dealership called The Field. They sell hot dogs. They are in the spot formerly occupied by The Dip. Has anyone been yet?

What's wrong with Carneys? Their hotdogs, chili dogs, New York dogs have always been good. The lines are long, but for the price, you get a ton of food, it's always tasty. I indulge in chili cheese fries about once every two or three years, and believe me, I don't want to be disappointed after that long a wait, and I never am. Good dogs, good burgers. I've tried Short Stop and they're also good, but Carneys seem a bit better, a the add ons are always fresh and tasty. I hate waiting on line, so it takes a superior dog to get me to cool my heels.

It's called The Infield according to an earlier thread. It appears to be owned by the same people as The Dip, and its menu makes some references to The Dip items. It looks like they are trying to capitalize on The Wiener Factory closing. The initial comments were not positive.

Go over to Woodman and get a dog from QT's in the Short Stop mini-market between Ventura & Moorpark. Quite a good variety and good quality products.

I second QT's -- it is the best in the Sherman Oaks area:
          QT Chicago Dogs
          4344 Woodman Ave
          Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

You guys aren't kidding, right? I've walked into that place, and walked right back out the environs were so unappetizing. Connected to a mini-market and all, very dirty seeming, etc. Smells like rancid grease inside.

Carter, was I mistaken? You don't find it this way? What do you order there?

The Dip is gone? I heard it had great French dip, and in all these years I planned to stop in and never did...I was hoping to find a place closer than Philippes that would satisfy my craving for decent French Dip--which is not to be found outside of Philippes. And even their's has gotten a little worse for wear over the years. Hot dogs don't do it for me, so I'll probably give Fields a miss. Drat, I feel bad about not going to the Dip...if more of us had, it might still be there. On the other hand, maybe the food wasn't as good as it was cracked up to be.

Do not feel bad about never going to The Dip. The place was less that decent. Nothing like Phillipes at all in quality or tast. Gave it 2 tries and that was 2 to many.

Haven't tried the hot dog place that repaced them. Now that the Weiner Factory is closed it would be nice to find a good spot in the area for good hot dogs, etc...
