The Chef's Table Restaurant Winter Garden
Two former Disney chef's and one of their wives (one from Victoria and Alberts, the other from The California Grill) have opened a fine dining ( Florida casual attire) restaurant in Winter Garden. Being called "The Chef's Table Restaurant at the Historic Edgewater Hotel.
The restaurant doesn't have much street exposure (it is located in the rear where Sarin used to be).
They charge a fixed price $46.99 for a three course meal. No Ala Carte menu. Open seven days a week from 5 - 9:30. They also recommend reservations 407-656-2633 It is a small restaurant with 9 tables.
Menu apps (Foie Gras Creme Brulee, Seared Sesame Crusted Tuna on Asian Black Bean Slaw, Wild Mushroom and Gruyere Cheese Torte) Entrees (Ribeye with Sauce Bearneaise, on Potatoe Gratin, Pan Seared Duck Breast with Red Wine Risotto and Balsalmic Reduction, Shimp and Scallop Mixed Grill with Golden Split Pea Ragout, Pork Loin with Creamy Polenta) Dessets (Chocolate Souffle with Peanut Butter Creame Anglaise, Berries Saute, Grand Marnier Sauce on Sponge Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream, Banana Walnut Bread Pudding with Banana Foster Sauce.
They also have a varied wine list with about 50 selections (10 by the glass).
They have been open less than a week and the food is already top notch. As of now they don't have much for Vegetarians on the menu, but I am sure the chefs will be able to create something on demand.
Got a great review from Scott Joseph in todays Sentinel.
A couple of changes from my initial post. They are now closed on Mondays and they offer a Sunday brunch menu ( and a regular Sunday dinner menu in the pm) and they offer an early menu on tue-thursday if you get there before 5:30.
They also have another number for reservations... 407-230-4837
Kevin (Chef) and Laurie (wife/host/somolier) have put together one of this area's FINEST restaurants. My wife and I just came back tonight and again (this is our 4th or 5th visit) we RAVED how good the food is. With Emeril's and Todd English's close by (as well as other big name/high end restaurants), I would take "The Chef's Table" in a HEARTBEAT over those other places. Kevin & Crystal (sous chef) are very passionate about what they deliver to the table and it shows!! My wife commented tonight "If Kevin's food were like sex, I would have just had 10 orgasms with this meal!"
Kevin is a very gifted and talented chef and I see this small restaurant doing GREAT things in the future!!!
It is nice that the menu (prix fix - $49.99) is changed up every few months and something fresh added. The food is so good, you HAVE to come back to try the other dishes (unless you dine with a group of 5 or 6 and you all order something different!)
We took my folks to The Chefs Table for Mother's Day brunch this past week. According to Laurie, The Chefs Table offers brunch for certain holiday's and sometimes during the summer. I'm on the E list and got the heads up in April; I booked immediately. Glad I did, the brunch was sold out with a long waiting list.
Everything was top notch from start to finish, service was very friendly and the food was just wonderful. The Brunch menu offers select entrees (There were several brunch offerings and several non breakfast offerings) and a choice of 2 dessert offerings. The cost was $21.99 per person and included either a Mimosa or Sake Bloody Mary. Additional drinks were available for $3.50. All of the items I'll describe were also included.
Upon being seated a basket of warm treats arrived, assorted mini muffins and delicious mini biscuits which were devoured by the table. Plenty of butter and fresh strawberry jam were also brought out.
My mother ordered the Eggs Benedict, her favorite, and was very pleased. I ordered Eggs Sardou, it was wonderful. Dad ordered the Shrimp Etouffe and was thrilled. Husband ordered the Beef tips in country gravy served over biscuits; he would have preferred the tips to be more tender, but he was happy and loved the gravy. All breakfast entrees were served with a cheesy potato casserole, which was insanely good. I gave most of my portion to my hubby since he eats like a 14 year old and doesn't gain an ounce.
After our entrees arrived a plate of shared pancakes arrived, 1 for each of us, along with vanilla scented maple syrup. YUM. The pancakes were delicious and just the right size, not huge but not silver dollar sized either. Along with the pancakes, a serving bowl of cheese grits, which were good.
We ordered another round of drinks ($3.50 each) and settled in for dessert. Tiramisu for 3 at the table and banana's foster for Dad. OMG, this Tiramisu was amazing. Chef Kevin brought out desserts....had we known how amazing they were going to be we would have hugged him. My Dad tucked into the Banana's Foster topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and the rest of the table tried to finish the Tiramisu, but took some home...where it was just as wonderful. The folks raved about the food and how nice everyone was....no more big hotel brunches for this crew.
We don't make it over that direction often, but we'll be back. I hope they continue Brunches this summer.
