Meal following a funeral/burial Cambridge Alewife/Fresh Pond

I will sadly be burying my brother either Friday or Saturday of this week. Can anyone recommend a suitable restaurant in the vicinity of the Cambridge cemetery, Rindge Ave (North Cambridge) to have a meal? The only ones I can remember in the area are Bertucchis, Aku, Aku, Joyce Chen and Franks Steakhouse on Mass Ave.

You know the deal- hard to know how many people will show, although we plan to keep it immediate family. That's at least 1 dozen family members. Parking is an issue. Most folks will be traveling back to the Stoneham/Reading area. After a long emotional day I don't want everyone to drive to far.

Thanks to all with suggestions.

  1. I'm so sorry.
Is Jasper White's Summer Shack right there? We had a birthday party there and several picky eaters were still satisfied with the diverse menu. It might be a bit loud though for your group, it's been a while since I've been there.

    1. There is a Not Your Average Joe's on Mass Ave in Arlington Center.. pretty diverse menu, reasonable prices but nice, and could seat a larger group. Just head up Route 2 from Fresh Pond, get off at 60 (exit past Lake St.), go right about a mile, and you'll hit the Center.. park, its just near hte intersection of 60 and Mass Ave. Afterwards, they can shoot into Medford to catch 93 North..

Or you could shoot up Concord Ave into Belmont Center. A few nicer places there..

      1. I am sorry for your loss.

Try posting on the Boston Board.

Also, what is your budget and best guess re. number of guests? Do you want a place that serves alcohol?

We just did a funeral luncheon in the Detroit area for my dad. We ended up choosing a buffet restaurant so everyone could get what they wanted. We also decided against serving alcohol to keep the cost down.

You might want to post this on the Boston board.. that's sort of in the thick of Cambridge..

        2. Sorry you're having to go through this. I can't make a specific recommendation for Cambridge, but having recently gone through this same ordeal in another state, my family held the post-service reception in a small, private dining room at a hotel not too far from the cemetary. It was nice to have the privacy and, even though the food was not particularly stellar, it turned out well. Since there are a number of hotels in Cambridge, this might be a solution for you. Good luck.
