Key West Recommendations for a quick stop

We'll be in Key West for a few hours in late September while on a cruise and we decided not to do a shore excursion there so we could have more time to get a feel for the place. Are there any places we shouldn't miss with great food within walking distance from the port? Thanks!

I've never visited via cruise so I am uncertain the timing (amount of hours and morning versus night?)

Near the port and very KW vibe - Blue Heaven at 729 Thomas St (lobster eggs benny by day and chickens under foot...) I heard that Meteor BBQ reopened but have not been back there yet (used to be a down home hideout next to a very cool bar - the Parrot) 404 Southard St. Foodies like Marquesa 600 Fleming and 7 Fish 632 Olivia and 915 Duval. The ladies "Alice's and Sarabeths" are great and long-standing KW destinations .

Since you said "quick stop" I would vote BO's Fish Wagon 801 Caroline Street which is truly an "only in KW" experience.

B.O.'s is a great idea. They have one of the best Grouper Sandwiches you will ever try. Pepes is also worth considering. Half Shell Raw Bar has gone through a few changes over the recent years but its still a great Raw Bar experience and worth a look.

after all that fancy cruise food I bet Half Shell Raw Bar would be great

    2. It all depends on how much time you have. See if there is a Soundcheck at The Green Parrot. They start at 5:30 and last til 7:00. No cover, cold brews, bad art, great music. Good music can be had at the Hog's Breath Saloon. Happy hour oysters at the Half Shell Raw Bar from 5:00 to 6:30, 50 cent oysters and such. BO's is a good choice for a grouper sandwich and so is a Bloody Mary or a $1.00 draft at Pepe's. Cole's Peace Artisan Bread at 1111 Eaton St. will be making terrific sandwichs by then. They are starting to bake real Key West Cuban bread and the gourmet sandwichs are unbeleivable. Key West on an afternoon cruise stop is just not enough time. Enjoy your time but come back and stay for 3 or 4 days. It is a true original.
