Backal's in Scarsdale?

Has anyone been for dinner? Was recommended to be by someone who had only been there for a brunch. Looking for a place in White Plains or Scarsdale for a Saturday night dinner - friends coming from the city to see our new hous and then go out.

I'm also open to other recommendations. Want to stay fairly close by since they are already driving to get to us - don't want to go somewhere that's another 25+ minutes away.

sallyposs, have you gone to their Tuesday night tastings? Five courses with five wines, I believe, for $38. Call to find out if they are still doing them. They're fun and the food is very good and innovative.

Yes, Dolores I have been to their tastings. I really enjoy them. You get to taste food from various regions that you would not normally order. I love the pairing of the wine and drinks with the food too. You are correct, very innovative.

Can you tell me about meritage raider? I pass by now and again and have wondered about it. What kind of food? What kind of atmosphere? Price point?

eclectic american food. they have some tapas type starters (very good), excellent apps, and fine main courses, including duck breast and hangar steak. figure $60. per person w/o alcohol. not much atmosphere, but it is relatively quiet, so you can enjoy your meal in peace.definitely worth a try.

Meritage is very good. I had a fantastic meal there, although the small plates are very odd and disconnected from the rest of the menu. The duck, venison, hanger steak and the bread pudding were all amazing. I wrote a more detailed review of it in January as well and highly recommend it.
