Classic French?

What are the most classic (maybe even region-specific) French restaurants in the city?

    La Grenouille is by far the most classic in Manhattan. On 52 between 5 and madison. Absolutely beautiful spot with an amazing history. A bit pricey but the bar offers cheaper options. Ask about the private room. If the owner Charles is there and they don't have a private party booked he loves to take you upstairs and tell you about its wonderful history. A landmark spot!

      I agree - in terms of classic French, as opposed to Bistro or Brasserie.

        La Grenouille is the first restaurant I thought of before opening this post! Classic French! I just love that dinning room!! SO elegant! Dover Sole is great and I really enjoy their split pea soup!! Have fun

          Bistro Benoit....althoughbrand new, doesnt get any more classic than that...
