Artie's in City Island--Not Worth It
On basis of previous posts and 22 food rating on Zagat, went with my family yesterday to Artie's.
I don't understand high ratings. Sirloin steak was not of good quality. Crab cake was bready. Calimari was overcooked. So were vegetables. My wife reports one generic red sauce for everything. Home-made baklava was boring. Menu sounds better than what actually comes out of kitchen. Won't be back there again.
In addition, as opposed to a place like Portofino, no view of water or City Island.

Our experiences couldn't have been different. We had dinner there in March and had perfectly prepared scallops wrapped in bacon. Then we had lunch there today and had their "basic" fried seafood platter: fish filets, scallops, clams and shrimp. Each one was great. Tender when it should have been and "toothy" when IT should have been. A lovely pinot grigio by the glass. A nice side salad with a lemon vinaigrette. Terrific French fries, thin and nice and crispy. Tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were good too. Reasonable prices. This is NOT haute cuisine but what is on CI?!? We are visiting from N. Calif. and will always eat at Artie's when on the island. Sorry it didn't suit you.
