I have been toying with the idea of taking two friends to either Quince in Needham or Coach Grill in Wayland. Has anyone had dinner in either of these two places? Does anyone have any suggestions for Brookline, Newton, Needham or Wellesley?

Admittedly I have never tried the two you described, but I do live in Newton and I can tell you about some of my favorites. I have almost tried Quince a few times, but never seem to make it....

I am a big fan of Lumiere: the food is always excellent, the ambiance is great, reservations are a snap, and it is easy to get to (right off the pike!).

In Wellesley, we like Alta Strada for more casual fare. Lincoln 51 in Newton Highlands is also worth a try, but the menu can be somewhat variable. Blue Ginger in Wellesley is also an option.

Not a fan of Quince. Never been to Coach Grill. In Wellesley, there is a very nice Italian place called Vela on Washington Street in Wellesley Hills. The owner used to be a chef in the North End. Quiet white tablecloth place with good food and service. Pomodoro and La Morra in Brookline are both very good.51 Lincoln in Newton also good. Not crazy about Alta Strada but Blue Ginger is excellent but pricey.

I have never had a bad meal at the Coach Grill in Wayland. I think it stacks up favorably to the better steakhouses downtown including its sister restaurant Abe & Louie's (both owned by the Back Bay Restaurant Group).

The Coach Grill has excellent food and service. I would suggest asking to be seated in the section on the right. The one time I was seated in the middle it was incredibly noisy and I would ask not to be seated there again.
