Newport - bouchards, white horse tavern, black pearl

[Fort Point]

Were in Newport last month and enjoyed Castle Hill but want to try someplace else. Would appreciate any comments on these restaurants. Also how would you rank them?

Agreed.. Black Pearl shouldn't be in the running. White horse has been fabulous in the past, but I didn't enjoy my meal there a few weeks ago. I vote for the Spiced Pear.

Agree...I'm always surprised to see Black pearl getting such high marks on here - even inside, nowhere near the caliber of a Bouchard.

ALbert at BOuchards is great, White Horse also FLuke is a fun for a drink and apps. Mama Luisa's is a BYOB but traditioal Italian as you will find all the natives eat there I ate at the Black PEarl this past summer no comment.

Just ate at Bouchard this past weekend and it was a nice experience. Food and service were good. Black Pearl was not worth any of the hype and would not consider returning so quickly for lunch. Castle Hill for lunch was great and just a wonderful view!!!

Restaurant Bouchard is a dining experience, The White House Tavern is an old charming tavern, The Black Pearl is okay, good chowder, you might try The Spiced Pear.

Bouchard is wonderful, White horse Tavern is old school gourmet, Black Pearl should not even be mentioned in the same category. Rhumbline and West Deck are two others you may want to consider...

the commodores room @ the black pearl is very nice,dont confuse it with the outdoor area that they also have,which is pretty average,good chowd er though.Bouchards is another very nice restaurant,well worth the praise it receives.now comes the white horse tavern,last summer my wife and i recieved a $200 gift certificate to the white horse,and it was one of the worst meals ive had just about anywhere.weve eaten there at least once a year for about the last 10 years,its a pretty special place for us,and it was just terrible.i know theyve changed ownership a few times recently but Wow!what happened to my wellington,it was shoe leather,my wifes salmon was even worse,i hope they can save this landmark restaurant.what a bummer.........
