Hi! I will be visiting from Los Angeles in Mid June, staying in Brooklyn with friends. The whole purpose of the trip is to do a tour of delicious street vendor food. I'm looking for lots of variety, small scale - to large scale and the key will be to experience as many types of food vendors as possible. ..I will be there for 3 days, can anyone recommend some places not to be missed? I need to work out a route. I'm not really super familiar with Manhattan so specifics would be cool. Thanks for your help!!

Ditto -- both of those threads have a lot of info, although the second one doesn't focus on street carts per se.

For only street vendors, see also this comprehensive listing in Time Out NY:

You should definitely hit Chinatown, or even better, head to Flushing. There are many posts on Flushing on the Outer Boroughs Boards, and hopefully people will weigh in on Chinatown. If you can consider Banh Mi to be street vendor food (a small kitchen in the back of a jewelry store) try Saigon No. 1 Banh Mi on Mott St.

Also, the Halal cart on 6th and 53rd, SW corner, after 7:30, is a must.

The Halal carts on both sides of the street are the same. Don't be one of the suckers who waits an extra 20+ minutes in line because the identical uniforms weren't obvious enough for you.

I second the Hallo Berlin Cart that the person below me references.
