Koji's at Hollywood & Highland
Due to the fact that my niece turned 23 last night, and because she and her friends have been to this place before and like it, we found ourselves swimming upstream like transgenic salmon, first on the 10 Freeway and then up La Brea and then Highland to this paean to bad taste called Hollywood and Highland. This is one ugly mall, but that certainly fits this area of LA.
In any case Koji's is mainly a shabu-shabu restaurant, with some trick sushi rolls and sukiyaki as their main dishes.
I don't like shabu-shabu, so tried the beef sukiyaki. Overly sweet, overly salty, but the veggies were nice and the beef was excellent. I did notice that for only $87 per person you could elect to have Kobe beef in your shabu or you suki...but since my brother in law was paying I decided to be nice to him, (although I did kid him about getting it, and he replied that he would just order $87 worth of whatever food the next time we were hosting).
I know people have talked about Vert at H&H, but I just can't see coming back here after an hour of crawling through traffic and paying $12 to get my car ransomed back from the Valet, (yeah they have self park but were were running so late that I used the V).
Id rather go to the Koji's in Orange County. Im close to the Hollywood Koji's but the OC spot is in a nice area ( the Block shopping mall) I live in North Hollywood but im willing to drive all the way to OC. My husband and i love Koji's Shabu Shabu, we tend to go there at least once a month. It is expensive but the fact that it is a different way to dine/lunch is what makes us go back.
