Napa Wine Train Lunch
My husband is a train buff and I thought this might be a cute little thing to have a nice lunch served and a visit to one the vinyards for our aniversay. Has anybody tried this? Is it worth the splurge? Or should we just find a nice restuarant with some good wine?

I went once on a PR thing when it first opened and I was wow-ed. It was fun and the food was solid. I went again where I paid and it was ridiculous. Expensive and needlessly fussy. And I've been a bunch of times on the Santa train. A total nightmare but necessary for the kiddies.

I've not been on the train, but I've been to corporate events at their culinary center. They try, but the food is mediocre. There are so many other local restaurants that are so much more delicious. And they don't require taxpayer dollars to keep them in business, like the Wine Train does (we payed for their freeway overpass). If you absolutely must do the train, you can do the ride without the meal for $50 per person.

Don't know if you can still do this, but you used to be able to hop in in Napa and get off in Yountville, wait for the train to return and ride back to Napa. It is a little walk from the tracks, under 29 to downtown Yountville, but you are much better off eating at one of the great restaurants there.

Find a nice restaurant. I haven't been, but none of the negative reports about it make me want to go.
