Looking for translations of Chinese sauces (from English)

Hi, new here so go easy. I've been reading the boards and I think there's some people out there who can help me.

I'm a 1.5 generation Chinese-American (chic term for those born in China but having grown up in the U.S.). As a kid my parents obviously made Chinese food for me and I became familiar with many Chinese ingredients but only by their Chinese names. Unfortunately, similar to many people like me, my ability to read and write Chinese has deteriorated as I've become older, though I can still speak it.

Now, I'm encountering an amusing problem. When I go shopping for Chinese ingredients, I see their names in English and I don't recognize them because I only know them in Chinese. Moreover, if they're also labeled in Chinese I often have difficulty reading them. Sometimes I can identify what it is by sight but sometimes I can't. Is there anyone who can help me identify what exactly these sauces are? If you could use pinyin to spell out what's in these bottles and jars I'd really appreciate it.

1) Duck sauce
2) Plum sauce
3) Hoisin sauce
4) Chinese BBQ sauce
5) Broad bean sauce/paste

  1. Hope I've gotten this right ... here are the actual Chinese words followed by the pinyin in Cantonese and Mandarin. (I'm a Cantonese speaker so my Mandarin pinyin may not be entirely right, but hope it helps.)

    (1) 酸梅醬 (suen mui jeung / suan mei jiang)
    (2) 蘇梅醬 (so mui jeung / su mei jiang)
    (3) 海鮮醬 (hoi sin jeung / hai xian jiang)
    (4) 叉燒醬 (char siu jeung / cha shao jiang)
    (5) 豆瓣醬 (dau ban jeung / dou ban jiang)
