Teen/Mom cooking classes?
My 16 year old son wants us to take a cooking class. One day class preferred. Not desserts.
We live in Contra Costa County but Berkeley/Oakland would be fine, too.
Ktichen on Fire on Shattuck is easy to get to and has a nice lineup of classes. Depending on what you're looking for in terms of a particular skill or type of food, there are some great classes in people's homes, rosetta costantino is at the Paulding Kitchens, and I've heard great things about the Piedmont Community Center. What a great thing for him to ask for!
David and I took a Mediterranean Seafood class at Kitchen on Fire in Berkeley and loved it! There were about 20 people there, mostly in their late 20's, early 30's. (My son charmingly remarked "I figured I'd be the youngest person there but I didn't know you'd be the oldest, Mom")
Chef Olive (real name) demonstrated the dishes first. His instructions were clear, precise and humorous. His team was top notch. We divided into groups to make Greek Style Baked Fish Fillet w/Lemon Oil Sauce, Phyllo Wrapped Fish with Tomatoes, Thyme and Mint, Grilled Prawns with Feta, Olive Oil, Mint and Dressing, and Mediterranean Seafood Stew.
Demo was about an hour, cooking about an hour and another 45 minutes to devour every tasty morsel.
It was a great experience for both of us.
my mom just reserved my bf and i a spot in a knife skills class at kitchen on fire in october for our birthdays -- i'm really excited.
my aunt has taken classes there with my 14 y/o cousin and they both enjoyed themselves...
Try Pans on Fire in Pleasanton. There is a new cooking school in Sausalito called In The Kitchen.
