Garcias in the daytime is great. Fresh fish prepared simply. They have both restaurant and market. Also the Casa Blanca fish market is a staple of the area. I know I'm sounding like a broken record here but Artfish in Coral Gables is great. There's definitely a few threads on the topic in the Florida boards as well.

Forgot to also add Maison d'Azur located in the Angler's Resort (Miami Beach). Very pricy, but well worth it. I think these restaurants are tops in quality in Miami-Dade right now.

Sincere thanks to all for input...Garcias`s was perfect for lunch - Casablance was wonderful for market fish.....price/choice/quality....
Captain Jim`s was very adequate for lunch and their crab "treat" before the meal arrived was far superior to the one at Garcia`s (although staff/family attention at Garcia`s was far superior....not to mention view of river)
I want to check out a creole/fish take-out across the street and a bit north of Capt. Jim`s.....will report if we get to go before we leave

There has been several threads on this topic - do a search. But I do notice there's no one stand-out thread...
Meanwhile, do check out Omar Seafood at

and let me know how it goes! I haven't been but it got a good review in Yelp.

For good simple seafood - near downtown, second Garcia's. North Miami, Captain Jim's. South Miami, Captains' Tavern. Garcia's and Captain Jim's both are seafood markets w/ restaurants; Captain's Tavern used to have a market, not sure if it still does.

There are small fish mongers and bodegas by your condo. Walk Collins from 70-75th and see if "SeaFood to Go" is still there @ 73rd. There is a sushi deli on the 79th Street Causeway too.

Sushi Deli has great sushi (tiny sushi bar inside a Japanese market). The market also has frozen sushi grade tuna (incl. toro), hamachi, salmon, octopus, etc. including some items that are "super-frozen" (frozen and kept at very low temperature - better preserves texture and flavor).

Captain's Tavern is a wonderful experience with a lively atmosphere. The Boater's Grill in Bill Baggs is also interesting. Last Friday, I snacked there. The whole fish -- they had three varieties but I didn't ask what they were -- were magnificent looking.
