If you are not a purist, TJ has some 2000 Black Mountain Pinot Noir "Painted Ranches" at $5.99. Tastes good, though not as subtle as your garden variety pinot noir. Still, very drinkable.

Thanks for the tip; reasonable wines at reasonable prices are getting harder to find, even as the overall market tanks.

Trader Joe's featured a "new" Napa cabernet yesterday called Charles Shaw for $1.99. I didn't have the guts to try it (below my minimum of 3.99--it might actually be rotgut) What if it's great... secretly vintage Mayacamas in a cheap wrapper. Who will be the first Hound to find out? We will be forever grateful.

The Charles Shaw cab isn't new, it's been at Trader Joe's for the last few months, and it's about the best $1.99 wine imaginable. I know people laying in caseloads. Not a serious wine, but a fine bargain house red.
