Good bakery in the South Bay area

Hi all, my hubby's birthday is coming up and I wanted to get him a really nice cake. Could anyone suggest a good bakery in the South Bay area, somewhere around Santa Clara, Mountain View, or Fremont area? Even a cupcake place would be great since he loves cupcakes. Thank you in advance!

Flour Flower in Willow Glen in SJ. Second Fleur de Cocoa.

      My faves, in order:

European style: Fleur de Cocoa, La Patisserie, Sugar Butter Flour
American style: Icing on the Cake, Bijan, Aki

Definitely Fleur de Cocoa in Los Gatos for something a little fancier (i.e. not cupcakes).

I highly recommend La Patisserie in Cupertino, who make cakes in a lighter, more European style.

I also recommend La Patisserie. They have both light (White Out) and heavy (Black Magic) cakes.

Sugar Butter Flour over in Sunnyvale is good. I've never gotten a full cake from them, though, just cookies and pastries. They were quite good, though.

My wife got me a Chocolate Dream Cake from Sugar Butter Flour for my birthday a few months ago. It was very aptly named - one of the best birthday cakes ever!

I've had good cakes from Prolific Oven and Aki's. Also, have attended a party where Aki's made a cupcake cake.

I second Aki's. I ordered a cupcake cake from there about 2 yrs ago & it was a big hit w/ the kids.
