Tasty Carry-out in Glen Ellyn or Wheaton?

crispychick May 2, 2008 10:42 AM

We're having a little family get together (lunch) in Wheaton this weekend, and we're going to pick up carry out. What's really tasty in the area that we could pack to the house? Fabulous Noodles in Lisle is one option, but we're open to just about anything. Any suggestions?

Never been, but it was recommended in this thread:

I also would consider bq take out. Uncle Bub's in Westmont - perhaps. Again, I've never been but I've seen it getting love.

    Butler's is in Wheaton:

    Butler's BBQ & Grill
    322 E. Geneva Rd, Wheaton

If Fabulous Noodles appeals to you, consider Joy Yee Noodles in Naperville as an alternative. you can take out Chinese, Korean, Malaysian, Thai, Japanese, etc. at very reasonable prices (approx $10 per dish).

Fabulous Noodles is head and shoulders above Joy Yee's, I drive 70 miles each way to eat at Fabulous Noodles(just last week), and will never eat at Joy Yee's again(food to me is like Panda Express, or PF Changs quality). Just my humle opinion.

        Other top notch Chinese options:
        Lao Szechuan - Downers Grove,
        Katy's Dumplings - Westmont.

As for Uncle Bubs, they are hit and miss, they have all the necessary bbq items(ribs, pulled pork, hot links, brisket, rib tips), they just dont get it right 100% of the time.

Guess you haven't eaten more than once or twice at Joy Yee to compare it to Panda Express. We've been to Fabulous Noodles, Lao Szechuan, and Katy's Dumplings and find them on a par with Joy Yee, except that at Joy Yee you can get a wider variety of oriental cuisines: Korean, Thai, Malaysian, Filipino. Fabulous Noodles is good, but for quick service, low prices, wide variety, we are consistently drawn to Joy Yee. But we have to drive only 3 miles to Joy Yee, 5 to Fabulous, 9 to Lau S. and 11 to Katy's.

I have been to Joy Yee's in Chinatown a few times, and the Naperville location a couple of times as well. Not very authentic, and few noodle dishes.

Although I live far away I work a few minutes from all of these spots, and Joy Yee's is never even considered for lunch. Lao Szechuan, and Fabulous Noodles win out every time.

I live in Wheaton and I would definitely recommend India Palace. I've never been disappointed. I would NOT recommend Butler's BBQ.

If you're looking to stay in the Glen Ellyn/Wheaton area, we've done carry-out from Chicks 'n Salsa in Glen Ellyn (Baker Hill by Dominick's on Roosevelt) many times. The chicken is marinated in fruit juice and grilled. They use all fresh ingredients.... we order whole chickens and it comes with tortillas, 2 or 3 sides (the sweet potatoes are soooo good), and an array of salsas, jalapenos, toppings, etc. They even throw in the plates, napkins, forks.... we always order their guacamole too. They've been written up & won awards for their fish tacos... we found them just so-so.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! We settled on Fabulous Noodles and all agreed that it was really fabulous! Some of our samplings: noodles Indonesian style, Singapore noodles, pan fried noodles with beef and broccoli and with chicken in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken, honey walnut shrimp and a bag of delicious vegetarian egg rolls. We all highly recommend FN and would go back anytime.

Lao Szechuan and Katy's are still on the list for another time. I will definitely try India Palace, too.

          Thanks all!
