Chicory for Sale

Chicory, the Carroll Gardens purveyor of sub par hotdogs and other grotesqueries, is for sale. There's a big sign in the window. Let's hope something delicious takes over.

  1. Good news! I wont miss that place at all. I liked them initially but most of their food sucks and I cant tell you how many times they messed up my delivery order.

I do miss the Red Deli though, hope something good opens there as well.

    1. Hopefully it's just the business and not the building that's for sale. Does anyone know? Yeah, it was pretty good at first, but got weird.

          250K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      2. I have to say, I disagree, I am so upset about Chicory closing. Am I the only one ?? I walked by there on Saturday and I just could not believe it. I never had a bad meal there. I absolutely loved the Buffalo sandwich ( my mouth is watering ), the tacos, the beet salad, the chicory salad, the collard greens, the burgers....ok, you get the idea, I was a major fan. It was one of the only places I would order in from. To be fair, they did mess up our order now and again but they were so quick. I really don't know where I will go now when I am in need of some comfort food. I will miss Chicory very, very much. I hope Gavin is thinking of opening up a place somewhere soon near here.

To be fair to both sides of the story...there -was- a time when Chicory was truly remarkable. I say this confidently and with no apologies. But, I'd say, in the last 2 years(?) the quality has fallen, far. I always picked up "to go" so I never dealt with deliveries so I can't speak to that. But the food got less and less delicious and the items less and less creative. Gavin could not be a nicer guy. His place was clean and he was always super friendly. And the food, at one time -was- really really good.

With this place gone and the Red Deli never opened like it was supposed to there is a big gap on Clinton street.

I'm somewhere in the middle. When we lived around the corner, we ordered from there a lot. We almost always were satisfied or better, and they were always very friendly. However, their prices always seemed a buck or two too high for each item, which made any mistakes / long waits a little more annoying.

Since we moved away (6 blocks north :)) we almost never go or order there, and I think not at all in the last year and a half, so we haven't seen the big decline. I won't miss it, but I'm sorry to see it not succeed more.

The Red Deli showed signs of future life this weekend - people in there working, and a couple of counters and deli cases in there. Hopefully it won't be long before we don't have to go over to Court to grab coffee before going back over to CH Park...
