Breakfast in Atlanta--Brookhaven or Downtown

I'm going to be in Atlanta Saturday morning and am looking to grab breakfast after a race I'm running in the Brookhaven area. Any suggestions: dive, high, whatever--just want something that is good and open around 9 a.m. Am heading home right after race, via 85 South, 20 West...

Skip the Waffle House and go to the Silver Skillet! www.choppedonion.com

If downtown works head over to Inman Park for Thumb's Up - I have never had anything less than a great breakfast there and have been going at least a couple times a month for years. Another good downtown opp is Stone Soup. Don't know of anything I really like for breakfast in Brookhaven, sorry!

I had the French Toast at Thumb's Up this morning, with Lou's Coffee, Spuds, and Salmon. Spot on terrific!

the Flying Biscuit is the most over-rated place in town. Be prepared to stand in line for very below average food.

West Egg is a great idea (cut over to Northside to avoid 75/85South -- they're paving this weekend -- then over to Howell Mill at 14th). Try Carroll Street Cafe in Cabbagetown also. Killer Bloodies. Silver Skillet's another good one, true classic diner. Highland Bakery on N.Highland in Inman Park is another good bet.

I was going to say Carroll St. Cafe, too, but navigating and finding that place in Cabbagetown could be tricky (which is why I also refrained from suggesting Thumbs Up.) for someone that doesn't know their way around. Wait, who am I kidding. I-20 East to Boulevard North and you run right into Carroll St. Great Bloodies, although I probalby enjoy the breakfast food better at West Egg.

I lived in Brookhaven years ago, but haven't been up there in a long time. Is the Original Pancake House still on P'tree Street? Was't it just North of Dresden, before you get to Ashford Dunwoody?? It ain't Flying Biscuit, but solid good 'ol breakfst, especially after a race. And right there in Brookhaven.

If heading South on 85, West Egg Cafe on Howell Mill isn't that far off the Hwy. 14th Street Exit, turn right and it dead ends into Howell Mill. I hear they're doing construction over there and don't know if that makes it difficult to maneuver, but another great b'fast place. Cool atmosphere and yummy.

The Original Pancake House in Brookhaven was an important part of my husband's courtship, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. However, it closed well over a year ago as they are building a new development on the land there, called Town Brookhaven. Think the Original Pancake House is still open on Cheshire Bridge Rd., but we have not ventured over there. We enjoy breakfast occasionally at Goldberg's Deli on Roswell Road, but they don't hold a candle to OPH!

            What about the Flying Biscuit?

Silver Skillet on 14th St. only a quarter mile or so west of 75/85. Classic diner.

That's easy...Waffle House, right there on Peachtree in Brookhaven.
